It is important to understand that the two dental terms invisalign and clear braces which are often coined as similar differ in many ways. They are two options that can be used for different dental issues.
Definition of Invisalign & Clear Braces
Invisalign – Invisalign is a treatment option that may use transparent aligners to shift teeth. This is used for at least 22 hours and then is replaced with a new set.
Clear Braces – This is transparent ceramic braces that use the bracket to create right pressure on teeth for proper alignment.
Difference between invisalign and clear braces
Both treatments can provide a solution but they differ:
- Invisalign is more transparent – It is a virtual transparent alternative for teeth straightening. Braces are more noticeable than invisalign.
- Invisalign can be removed – Brushing and flossing is difficult for ceramic braces but invisalign can be removed if required. This facilitates eating, brushing and flossing.
- Clear braces take fewer adjustments – Invisalign uses a tray that needs to be changed every two weeks. The duration for braces is four weeks.
- Clear braces can treat more extensive cases – Invisalign can treat issues such as crowded or crocked teeth, gapped teeth, and overbite or underbite. Braces can treat crossbites, malocclusions, extremely crooked teeth, flaws in jaw and teeth.
- Clear braces are a little brittle – Made of brittle material, these are susceptible to chipping or breaking. It requires a hard force to break it.
- Clear braces can irritate soft tissue – Braces may be irritating and this is because of the material they are made of. They can feel rough initially and may cause irritation for lips and cheeks.
- Clear braces can’t always fix bottom teeth – The material used in braces is harder than existing enamel. This makes the upper teeth rub against bottom teeth.
- Clear braces can stain your teeth – Brackets never stain teeth but if one drinks a lot of coffee or eat a lot of curries, the wires of brackets can, however, stain your teeth.
