5 Things You Should Know About Cosmetic Dentures

Dentures are a removable replacement for all or part of your lost teeth. Tooth loss can happen due to periodontal disease, dental decay or trauma. Modern Cosmetic dentures are designed to look and feel like the natural teeth and here are 5 things you should know.

Cosmetic Dentures aren’t Only For Old People

While old people are more likely to use dentures than younger people, because they have lived longer and are expected to lose more teeth, dentures can be used by anyone suffering tooth loss.

Types Of Cosmetic Dentures

There are three types of cosmetic dentures:

  • Full Dentures: replaces your entire arch of teeth- upper or lower
  • Partial Denture: replaces large continuous gaps in your teeth.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures: are anchored to dental implants with small titanium screws that serve as the tooth’s root. Implant-supported dentures are the most stable and a full arch of teeth can be supported with as little as 4 implants.

Procedure Duration

Irrespective of the type of cosmetic denture you choose, the procedure can take time. Detailed consultations and designs are made in advance to ensure your dentures fit right the first time.

Partial dentures procedure takes a few weeks. The dentist installs the denture right after removing the affected teeth.

Full dentures take more time. This is because the teeth and jaw are pliable, and the dentist must wait for a few months after extraction so that the jaws settle before fixing the cosmetic denture.

Implant-supported dentures require around six months to form a strong bond with the jawbone. Only after this period can the dentures be fixed.

Costs

Partial dentures are the cheapest and cost below $1000.

A simple set of full dentures will cost $1,000 while a premium set will cost $5,000 and above.

Implant-supported dentures are considerably more expensive than either option because of the complexity of the procedure. However, they are more stable and feel more natural.
